


Author BIo: Herbert George Wells was born in 1866 in Bromley, Kent, near London. He was the son of a housemaid and gardener. Life was hard on Wells because of his two broken legs. His father and mother had the responsibility to take care of him during his recovery. Wells would read lots of books on his bed while he was recovering. This dedication and passion for reading and writing converted Wells into an awesome author. Wells was very well known as a famous and wealthy author. Wells was fascinated with the world of science fiction. He studied and read all types of science fiction.That is why most of Wells novels and books were mainly about science fiction.
Characters: In the book The Time Machine, H.G. Wells doesn't give a proper name to most of his characters. Instead he gives them a noun for their names.
The Time Traveler: is a scientist and an inventor. He has many theories of science and he invented a time machine in which he believes could travel into the past and future. The Time traveler is a round character and the main character of this story. Most of the other characters are flat characters and not much is described or said about them.

Filby: He is a round character, who has red hair and likes to argue with the Time Traveler's theories. He thinks all of the Time Traveler's theories are a lie and he always wants to be correct in everything.
Medical Man: He is a flat and dynamic character, he is known as a doctor. He is one of the many guest who attends the Time Traveler's dinner. At first he believes the Time Traveler's theories, but later on he starts doubting them.
Psychologist: He is one of the many flat characters in this story, he also attends the Time Traveler's dinner to hear about his theories and invention.

The Eloi: they are small, peaceful, and childlike creatures who like to play and have fun. They are very gentle and kind creatures who all sleep together in large halls. They sleep together to protect themselves from the Morlocks.
Hillyer: He is a vey supportive character who believes and supports the Time Traveler's theories.
Morlocks: They are hideous, violent, ape- like creatures, who prey upon their cousins, the Eloi. They are afraid of light and fire, that is why they live underground.
Mayor: He is another flat character, who isn't all that brilliant, but likes to hear the Time Traveler's theories and inventions.
Weena: She is a peaceful creature called a Eloi. She becomes really good and close friends with the Time Traveler, when the time traveler saves her. She is a good help to the Time Traveler, because she helps him communicate with the other Eloi. Unfortunately she ends up dying later in the story.

Plot Line:
Exposition: Everyone is present at the dinner, when the Time Traveler explains his theories and inventions.
Rising Action: The Time Traveler pulls the lever of the Time Machine and goes into the future. He encounters a strange Earth without humans, and with different types of creatures called the Eloi and Morlocks.
Climax: The Morlocks steal the Time Machine from the Time Traveler.
Falling Action: Weena dies, some of the Eloi die when the Morlocks attacked.
Resolution: The Eloi defeat the Morlocks, the Time Traveler retrieves the machine from the Morlocks. The Time Traveler finally goes back home.
Theme: That in the future there is a possibility that humans may become extinct and disappear from this world.
Recommendations: I would recommend this book who enjoy reading science fiction books. Also for readers that like to read books on first person perspective. This book is mostly like the science fictional story of the narrator in the book. Reader who like to imagine and dream of how the future might look, would like this book. This book is very descriptive and gives you a lot of imagination to keep you entertained in reading it.
