History
The Andover Area was first called Minneha, and later changed to Cloud City.
The first Township election was help April 9, 1872. Bonds were issued to complete the railway through Cloud City. The railway was complete in 1880.
The town's name was changed to Andover on June 7, 1880, when Mr. Cloud had a falling out with the residents of the town.
The first buisness in town was a trading post that sold all types of merchandise. The first hotel was built in 1881and operated by J.C. Lines. The ciy's first school cost $2,000 in 1882. The first enrollment was 86 students.
In 1883, the population of Andover was 150 people. By 1883 there was a hotel, a grocery store, lumber company, a shoemaker, livestock business, coal and grain, a meat market and the railway.
The first passenger train through Andover was in 1885 and the last passsenger train went through in October 1960.
Historical Event
The train robbery on July 17, 1898! The robbers were caught in August. They were tried and convicted in Butler County Court. Sam Smith was charged with first degree murder and hung. Thomas Wind was charged with second degree urder and sent to prison.
Historical Event
April 26, 1991 an F5 tornado left a trail of destruction almost wiping out Andover. Thirteen residents were killed and 4,300 residents were left homeless. Ten businesses and two churches were destroyed. In August of 1992 Andover's Historical Society was organized.

Andover is located at 37 degrees, 4' 28" N, 97 degrees, 8' 13" W. It has over 6.8 square miles of land and .04 square miles of water. Andover is located in Butler County, Kansas, in Wichita metropolitan. It is larger than the state of Rhode Island.
The estimated population in 2003 was 8,222.
The median income for a household was $57,163 and per family was $65,781. About 6.3% of the population was below the poverty line.
Andover has two public parks for families to play, fish and camp.
Andover also has 4 neighbor mini parks.

In 2005, Andover passes a sales tax increase to help fund a new public library. The library raised through fund raising efforts, the other half of the money needed. The new library opened up October 18, 2008.

Sunflower Elementary
Butler County Community College also has a campus in Andover. Part of the college is connected to Andover High and the students get to take a few classes there in their senior year.

Mayor of Andover
The Mayor of the City of Andover is elected at large for a 4 year term. The City of Andover has the Mayor/Council form of government. Under this structure, the Mayor has the statutory authority to oversee the day to day operations of the City's government.
Mayor Lawrence has been a member of the Andover Governing Body since April 2001 when he was elected to the City Council. He sought and was elected to the office of Mayor in April 2003. Mayor Lawrence was re-elected for a second term in April 2007.
In addition the Mayor, with the consent of the City Council, is responsible for the appointment of various officials and volunteer board seats. The Mayor also chairs the Andover City Council meetings, votes in the instance of a tie vote on the City Council, and has the ability to veto ordinances passed by the City Council.

The City Council is comprised of six members who are elected at large and serve four year terms which are staggered - three members being elected when the Mayor is elected, and the other three being elected two years later.

The YMCA will be opening a new world class, 115,000 square foot, full service, family
facility in January 2009. The facility will include an early learning center, indoor and
