Sunday, December 17th, 2006

We had a problem with international characters not showing up correctly (ê, é, å, etc.) in newsletters, but that’s been fixed. Write away.

We need your input

Saturday, December 16th, 2006

As you can probably tell, we’re busy building templates to allow you to build even more astoundingly creative newsletters. But, building templates that you don’t want or need is a bummer, so we need to hear from you. What templates do you like best so far? What else would you like to see? Are there things you wish were different about the existing templates? Anything we are just plain missing the boat on?

We can’t promise we’ll build a new template every time we get a request, but we certainly will try our best to add fresh, stylish templates that are worth using.

Just post a comment here or use the “suggestion box” by clicking the link in the upper right corner of the site. We look forward to hearing your ideas!

Google for domains

Saturday, December 16th, 2006

Holy moly, Google Apps for Domains is slick. This doesn’t affect you, our members, directly but we switched over our backend mail system (for office and support mail, calendars, etc.) to Google Apps for Domains yesterday.

I told the guys I was a little leery about giving Google control of our mail system but it turned out to be completely painless and, so far, it works great. Easy, fast, and free. What more could a guy want from his outsourced email system?

Bug fixes

Friday, December 15th, 2006

We fixed some bugs today. There were some lingering template display issues in Internet Explorer 6 which are now fixed. All templates and newsletters with these issues have been automatically adjusted. (Speaking of IE6, if you use it, please upgrade to version 7—it’s so much better.)

And check out what Dave did to make a nifty and fast e-card.

It’s Christmas season, and we’ve got Christmas on our brains (in our brains, around our brains, under our brains) as much as the next person. Here’s another Yuletide themed template to get your creative juices flowing.

Formction… or is it Functorm?

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006

Form over function? Or function over form? What do you think?

One of the trickiest things about creating a great website application is balancing Form and Function. We want websites to look good. We want applications to work good. And it seems like almost everyone has an opinion about what looks good and works good.

You know, one way to restate the timeless form or function dilemma is to think about in terms of “usability”. Web applications need to be usable in order to be enjoyable and helpful. We’re working hard to make LetterPop! more usable by making it look better (form) and work better (function). What do you think?

Tell me about how our usability should improve? What do you find doesn’t work well? What is just right? I’d love to see a little thread here. I anticipate that advice from you, our users, will be the best!

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006

Here’s a silly one we hope you like. It’s a whimsical “ransom” note complete with Polaroid-style photos and cutout newspaper text headings. We supply the template, you supply the manifesto! ;-) Have fun.

We’ve been concentrating on holiday-themed templates since it’s, you know, the holidays; but we understand if that’s not your thing. We have more general-purpose templates in the pipeline that will be available soon.
